Still Wondering Why Occupy?

August 14, 2012

Started keeping a list of all the things that are still wrong, compromised or challenged in the United States. We’ve made plenty of progress in our short 230 years as a nation. But we’ve also got plenty of miles to go. Just when you thought it might be safe to go back in the water… DUN NUH! Big sharks, better known as “banks”, are circling once again and once again surround us. Giant, merciless, ferocious, and heartless, it is hard to believe that these anti-human machines of greed gain and profit had the nerve to borrow money from the same people they fork and gouge on a daily basis to bail them out of bankruptcy. They wouldn’t have done it for any one of American’s citizenry. Not one. And that my friends is the core and crux of the problem. One of them at least.

We already know the details of the meltdown (if you don’t, then look it up — Google “Matt Taibai”, for he’s single-handedly written some of the most elucidating and insightful pieces about it over the last four years). At the center of the collapse, as Mike Ruppert calls what’s coming economically for America due to these shenanigans that led up to the big crash of ’08, was a banking and financial system that deliberately lied cheated deceived defrauded extorted blackmailed and swindled just about everyone on planet earth, including themselves, for short term profits, knowing full well that eventually the dam would break and all hell would break loose. But just in case we lose the point of the matter, they may shield themselves from personal responsibility through corporate loopholes and fancy names like Goldman Sachs or Lehman Brothers et al. but these were living breathing human beings running these companies. The decisions that were made that destroyed the fabric of the great American Dream for 99% of the populace were made by people just like us.

The same people who less than a year later came crawling to the government begging for handouts and bailouts. The same people who less than a year after being handed almost a trillion dollars of taxpayers’ money rewarded themselves with some of the largest salaries and bonuses in recorded history. The same people who agreed to draft the hyper-inflated extortionist credit card offer that is pictured in this post. The pain may be being felt all over the country, and almost everyone both suffering and not has an opinion on which political side of the fence is at fault. But the smart person easily recognizes that this isn’t a partisan political problem where blame can be lain on either side. The problem is at the country’s core. From the President of the United States on down through the first term Congress persons newly elected. The greedy selfish thievery and chicanery that runs rampant through the streets and boardrooms of our country is going on in full view of the American people. And the leaders they elect to serve them each year. So in essence, one could assert that the problem lay in the hands of the people themselves.

There’s not a thing spoken about here that almost everyone in America doesn’t already know. And yet what are the American people doing about it? Bring the whole lot of them down? Hardly. Not yet at least. Truth is the American people aren’t really doing anything about it. They’re right back in the same stocks, bonds and funds, investing in and with the same banks and financial institutions that put us here in the first place. And just to rub it in, these banks — who now know with certainty that they are indeed considered “too big to fail” and therefore will always be bailed out by the people they screw day after day — have developed new schemes with even more strict and stringent rules and punishments for the people who bailed them out. When this credit card offer from First Premier Bank first started floating around in the underground it made it very clear that the 1% have no intention of growing a heart, developing integrity or nobility any time soon. If they can get away with it, they will, regardless of how much hurt they inflict on those around them.

If anyone is still asking “why the Occupy Movement?” study the attached “pre-approved credit card offer”. With over 15% of the country unemployed and even more deeply in debt and hurtin for certain, this is one of the toughest times economically America has ever faced. Everyone seems to be living on the edge, needing a little something extra to get by. The last thing in the world anyone hurting financially needs is a deceptive and malicious tease such as this. And yet, the question still remains as large as anything ever written on the hearts and minds of the American people: are they actually going to do anything about it? Or are they going to continue to allow these atrocities to continue?

If you’re still in a bank and not a credit union, you’re still part of the problem. If you’re not calling your state Senators and Congress persons demanding bank and financial institution reform, along with consumer credit reform, then you’re still part of the problem. And if you’re still scoffing at the bold and courageous actions of America’s young, old and in-betweeners who are participating in the Occupy Movement in any way they can then you’re still part of the problem. For this crisis, and don’t think for a second that this isn’t the greatest crisis America has ever faced excepting maybe the Civil War, is only just beginning. No one on Wall Street believes we are safe from this upcoming crisis. The bubbling Dow is just that, a bubble that can burst in a matter of hours as we all witnessed in 2008 and 2009. People in the United States seem to forget things so quickly in this new age of the 24 hour news cycle. As if the Dow has always been hovering around 13,000, totally neglecting to remember the fact that a mere two years ago it was half that.

It’s one thing to humbly ask for a hand out if you’re needy and desperate, work hard to pay it off and promise to never make the same mistakes twice. It’s another thing entirely to grab almost a trillion dollars from your fellow country men and women and use that money to immediately write yourself the biggest paycheck you’ve ever received and go right back to business as usual. Unfortunately that’s what we’ve seen transpire over the last three years. And if anything, the attached document illustrates just how unsorry, greedy and malicious these people are. It was the banks who put the people in this situation in the first place, and now they’re doing everything they can to take advantage of how many people are downtrodden, hungry and needy. If this isn’t a war, I don’t know what is.

–Fishy
